” This Is It “
12 December 2009 in UncategorizedHi Family,
Glad to be back . Old man winter has finally arrived and it’s no joke. It’s freezing in New York right now. This is the kind of weather that really makes one appreciate having that special someone to snuggle up with
all night. For others it can be a living nightmare. There’s nothing worst in this weather than waking up with no heat and hot water. I can tell you about plenty of days growing up with the oven on and big pots of water on
the stove. There were plenty of days my mother had to work two and three jobs to keep the bills paid in the house. I still don’t know how she did it but it taught me to never underestimate the power of a women. How some
of these artist can address women as bitches and hoes is beyond comprehension. Have they forgotten that some of these women carried them in the womb for nine months. So as we approach 2010 I hope that all of the artist
at least think about what they’re putting out there. I know it’s all about the money but then again sometimes it’s not all about the money. It’s about our commitment to what is right for the future of our children.
Speaking of music, the Micheal Jackson song “This is It” is becoming very prophetic. Always a man ahead of his time could he have said it any better. As we approach a year of the Obama
Presidency expect the war against good and evil to intensify. Forces are working everyday to stop progress. They are working in every bureaucracy in America. No longer can we afford to,”Lean Back” as Fat Joe said. This is a
time for every decent person still breathing to look in the mirror. The mismanagement of the country has gotten all of us into a huge mess. We’ve been so busy worried about everybody elses backyard our own backyard is full of debris.
New York is actually in the process of being sued by the homeless. Are we doing bad as a city if we can’t give the people with nothing a bed and a square meal? A billion dollars in the red by the end of the month. The governor
threatening to withhold payment to localities. Mass transit in a three hundred and fifty million dollar hole that probably got lost somewhere in between the two sets of books. Here I am paying eleven dollars to go over the Verrazano bridge
littered with potholes. Why don’t they do us a favor and raise it another dollar ! The M.T.A mismanages more money than any agency in existence. It still manages to escape the radar of srutiny. Many projects still unfinished and facing a
serious threat of having to cut bus and train service on many lines. If you can’t see the seriousness of this picture than maybe it’s time to skip a few days of your favorite blunt wrap. “This is it”. No other words could be more accurate.
As we make our way out of our favorite watering holes for the holidays. Be sure to take a few things into consideration. There may be quite a few gypsy cabs that drive by your ass in the freezing cold.
There may be an extra hour wait for the train or bus. As you leave the train station and walk up the stairs to exit there may be someone waiting with a Mac 10. Yes you heard me right, I said a Mac 10. Am I the only one worried that
we have 23 year old children on the streets of New York with that kind of fire power. Did we ever really need ” The Guiding Light ” and ” Days of our Lifes ” in the first place? We have all the soap opera a person needs in New York.
Just open up your damned door ! I wouldn’t want to imagine being a tourists in New York for the first time. What a New York welcome. Here we are broke and making ourselves broker because the tourist are to scared to come spend some
money. Is it hitting home that we’re in a crisis not seen since the existence of mankind. James Brown had a song called ” Santa Go Straight to the Ghetto”. Does Santa realize he may go to the ghetto and come out and have no reindeer
because they’re in the oven with a mac-n-cheese. That’s the point we’re at right now. I hope that at some point these politicians can stop there silly game of twist and turn and start getting this country back in order.
The holidays just seem to bring out the worst in people. I just got off the phone with a friend telling me that someone broke into her house on Friday. She says she thinks she knows who it is.
I guess she was a little embarrassed to tell me it was her sleazy ass brother. Who else would know to go exactly to the money and jewelry and leave everything else in tact. People can’t even go to work to pay the mortgage because
there own family members are plotting to rob what their working for. When I talked to her about the incident I liked the fact that she had a certain amount of faith. It wasn’t the end of her world. In spite of everything that’s going
on we all need to proceed with a certain level of faith. What else can we have to help us endure these times. I know times are hard when I hear “Sly & the Family Stone” are ready to release another album. Slys been high how many
years now? A talented man that has sat idle so many years because of drug use. I look forward to Slys return. I would love to see Larry Graham on the set too. In any event lets keep the faith. It seems to be the only thing we have left.
” Tigers Wood”
6 December 2009 in UncategorizedHi Family,
I don’t know about you but I expect to have a serious hernia before this year is out. I think two thousand and nine will definitely go down as one of the most unforgettable years in American history. Can anybody name another year
that had a black president, a recession, death of an icon and drunken nun all in the same breath. Lets not forget all the violence, human tragedies and political officials that were carted off to jail by the bus loads. I was under the
impression that everybody was ready to go into the holidays and relax. Oh no that’s too damned boring for us right ! We’ve got to keep the drama going. We just couldn’t be satisfied with Dave and his interns or Chris Clown
and his lies. Just like the vampires we need some more blood right ! Well I wonder who our next target will be ? How about someone with a squeaky clean image. Someone with crystal clean white teeth. Someone handsome with lots
of money. You know, a ladies dream. How about Tiger Woods. Yes I’m sure you’ve all heard by now. Tigers been burning his wood in a few of the fireplaces around town. Now lets keep it real. Why sit here and play devils advocate
because of Tigers circumstance. Infidelity has been going on a long time it didn’t start with Tiger. Doesn’t anybody remember the lyrics to that Temptations classic, “Papa was a Rolling Stone”. What about that classic by Betty Wright,
” The Clean Up Woman “. Oh yes, those two records told the true story about what was going on. No longer could we be fooled because some of us were smart enough to be church ushers and singers in the choir. It was going down
in the community and inside the church. So lets not sit here and take Tigers misfortune as an opportunity to exalt ourselves into sainthood. The only saints left in America are the ones playing in the N.F.L. Trust me when I tell you. I take
great offense to all these men that have come out the woodwork to express their opinion. Please understand that these are men that just haven’t been caught. They are some of the biggest hypocrites on earth. No we don’t all
cheat but 99.9 percent of the men today will jump at the opportunity the moment a women opens her legs. I have enough life experience and fourteen years of marriage so I do have a certain level of insight on this subject.
Yes I’ve had plenty of men (some so-called friends) talk about me like a dog. Yes they even tried to hit on my ex-wife. I was fortunate that she wasn’t the cheating type because she had plenty of opportunities. It definitely opened my eyes to
how vicious some men can be when they start thinking with the wrong head. In the case of Tiger I see a few things. One major problem for him along with many other athletes is falling into this notion of being a role model.
This is one of the worst forms of trickery being perpetrated in America. If we’re born into an imperfect world of sin how is it possible to be a role model ? This is just a word being used by society to create a false sense of superiority.
Society is ready to tear you down at the first sighting of your imperfection. We should be setting good examples. That’s a little different than being a role model. We can be imperfect and still set a good example. Hopfully the onlookers
will see the benefit of that example and want to follow. Now getting back to Tiger, there are a few other nuances that I see in his situation. I would have to ask the question. Was Tiger even ready to be married in the first place?
I was married at 21 and yes I had a beautiful wife but no I don’t think I was ready. Obviously Tiger wasn’t either. Yes Tiger is handsome, intelligent and the best golfer in the world but he still lacks experience in “The Game of Life”.
Let me explain what I mean. This golfer that introduced Tiger to his wife had a little more experience in “The Game of Life”. He had a beautiful, single, blond, nanny as his lure. He was well aware of Tigers preferences. He was also
aware that he had access to the number one prize in golf. A young wealthy black man. So all he did was play his cards. His moves allowed this young lady to take a big jump from being a nanny to becoming Mrs. Tiger Woods. He was
well aware that the blond myth had won over Tigers mind. Tigers mind had been disillusioned by the Marilyn Monroe syndrome. The result is now he’s in a position to be set up for a huge financial hit. There is no way that a women
should be asking for 5 million dollars to stay and 80 million for another seven years. This is a women that you should waltz immediately into divorce court. Do not pass go, do not collect $200! We’ve taken the institution of marriage
and turned it into a sweepstakes game. Why continue to play the game when you can just get out of the game. This women obviously does not love you Tiger. You might want to think about preserving some of your wood for another fireplace.
Speaking of an institution, the gay rights bill was defeated in the senate by a 38 to 24 margin in the state of New York. One of the senators was on the tube talking about how he feels betrayed. Well put
yourself in Gods shoes. He feels betrayed too. The defeat was spear-headed by Ruben Diaz a pentecostal pastor. Obviously a few of the other senators had a conscience too. I’m a firm believer in “To each his own” but lets leave a few
of Gods principals in tact for our children. I took great offense over the summer when my children told me about the cat fights and the overt smooching of the gay counselors. What kind of example was this? Were they fighting over
who was the man or who was the women? I almost threw up when I saw Christine Quinn crying on the T.V. She needs to take that act straight to a reality show. Take the benefits of a civil union and be happy. Please don’t think
you can take the institution of God and re-arrange it.

” Reality Check “
24 November 2009 in UncategorizedHi Family,
It feels good to be back. The weather in New York has really been amazing. The overall mood seems to be a little tense which is always the case as the holidays approach. People are really trying to find a way to make ends
meet. As I drive around the different boroughs the lines at some of the food pantries are really long. The lines are no longer confined to just minorities it’s black, white, young and old. I noticed someone that I grew up with on the line
the other day. I didn’t let her see me but it did make my ass a little nervous. It was a reality check that at any moment my ass could be on that line too. They just fired someone on my job with seventeen years for driving someone in the
company car. I could understand a suspension but a firing, no way. This man does every subservient thing known to mankind for the bosses. Look at what they give him in return. A kick right up the ass. People really know how to
be evil when times get hard. Who really needs to be looking for a job right before the holidays. I’m still here trying to figure out whether I should go ahead with my regular Thanksgiving Day menu or cook the recession menu. Has
anyone looked at the price of food lately? Two dollars for four lemons. Fifty cents a lemon. I can’t even afford to put lemon in my tea. Call it a recession or a depression but for a black man it’s just another day. If I work eighty hours and
have just enough to pay rent and buy some groceries there’s something wrong with that picture. What else can we call it but modern day slavery. One out of every five black men out of work as we speak. It’s getting to the point where
the only thing a black man will have to offer is some d_ _ k. Now I know that may be okay with some of you but just understand that we go way deeper than that. We do have a lot more to offer. Just pick up the latest edition of Ebony magazine
and you’ll see that black men still do possess some of the greatest minds on earth. We were definitely not put here just to be studs and play basketball. The head of N.A.S.A. a black man. Just this week two black astronauts launched in space.
One of the chief financial accountants at goggle a black man. We have got to get our children to see some other aspects of our existence besides rapping and walking around with our pants hanging off our butts. I still can’t believe that
I actually saw a young man walking with the R.O.T.C. army uniform with the pants down at the ankles. What does he plan on doing when they ship his ass over to Afghanistan ? Hold the pants up with the left hand and shoot
the AK 47 with the right. My young brothers this mentality is sick. Most of the young people are oblvious to the true meaning of that style, which originated in jail. It means I am easy access for anal sex. So to my young brothers please
think about how you’re presenting yourself to the world. To all the parents that are suffering because of what’s going on stay strong and keep the faith. We can’t afford to give up on our children.
As we all approach the holidays let’s do a reality check and be grateful because each day is precious at this point. We take so much for granted today. I had to actually listen to a young
lady complaining about her job yesterday. I was saying in my head “Do you know how many people would love to be working in the mail room right about now”. When does the reality set in that “Hey, I am blessed”. Does this
lady realize that if you have a job right now it’s equivalent to being a part of the Jehovah’s Witness 144,000. Right now as we speak, forty eight states in deficit. Thirty four states cutting early childhood services. Twenty one states
laying off workers. Nine states releasing prisoners because they can’t afford the cost. Literally closing hospitals in the state of California. School in Hawaii being cut from five to four days. In another state ninety percent of the
libraries closing. To make matters worst the mayor of Sugar-land Texas was carjacked. So please, as we sit in some of these immaculate homes and prepare for Thanksgiving Day dinner be thankful. This is not the time to be
b_ _ _ hin and moanin about the one or two things that you don’t have. Remember you have the breath of life so enjoy it………………..Happy Holidays.
“LOL” (Lack of Loyalty)
10 November 2009 in UncategorizedHi Family,
If we don’t stop all this texting I’m going to scream ! We’re turning ourselves into textaholics. I’ve been a little under the weather. Don’t worry it’s not H1N1. I think I was just caught off guard by the weather.
Lets not forget that I sport a clean shaven baldy which can sometimes be the worst culprit in cold weather. So to all my fellow bald brothers and sisters please invest in a good hat this winter. Presently
there are quite a few things that need to be addressed so lets put everything out on the table. The least we can do for ourselves is try to make some sense out of this mess that has been created by the powers that be.
We’re just a few days after the elections and if I have to use a text term to describe the New York Mayoral race it could only be “LOL”. In this particular mayoral race it had two meaning. For Mayor Bloomberg
“LOL” means “Laugh Out Loud”. For Bill Thompson “LOL” means “Lack of Loyalty”. Yes it was definitely a battle of David vs Goliath. The seventh richest man in the world with a net worth of seventeen billion
dollars narrowly defeated Bill Thompson. The one hundred million dollars that Bloomberg spent easily set records for money spent during a mayoral campaign. It also accounts for a months worth of pay just to give
everyone an idea of how deep Bloomies pockets are. In spite of all the spending the people sent a clear message. He was not the overall peoples choice. So in the words of “L.T.D.” “Where did we go wrong?” The
same place we always go wrong. When it comes to people of color we just have no damned loyalty to each other. We have totally forgotten about the struggles that brought us to this country in the first place. How can
I get upset with Bloomberg for knowing all he has to do is put a few million in his pockets and head over to all the prominent pastors to pimp them like prostitutes. They have sold out there congregations and it’s time
to put all these “Halle-fool-iah” preachers on blast. When they pass that plate for tides the only thing that should be placed in the plate is a piece of lint from the inside of your suit jacket. Let’s also not overlook the
absence of the President and a few other influential Democrats that could have pushed Bill over the top. Eighty three percent of the districts in East N.Y. still voted for Thompson inspite of Bloomies money, so go Bill!
In terms of economic news were heading into the eye of the storm. Twenty five million people out of work across the country. We can no longer let ourselves be fooled by the Stock Market illusion.
Yes, we have seen some positive signs in recent weeks and gold is the new flavor but we can not use the stock market as the basis of how the economy is doing. Five more bank failures this week. New York is on the heels
of some of the most draconian cuts in years. Health aid and education once thought to be untouchable are on the chopping block. Two billion that needs to be cut and that’s just for two thousand nine. Do we really even
want to think about two thousand ten and eleven. To make matters worst we have a governor that is walking on two cubes of jello. No one really has any respect for him so these changes could be dragging along in
the legislator for months. In other words he can’t get a damned favor from nobody. So the time is now to take those measures needed. I don’t know ? What does that mean for you? Do you need to start using the
toilet paper exactly by the square? Wearing your undergarments twice to save on soap powder. Whatever the case my be lets all stay prepared because we can make it through this.
Lastly we have the health care issue back at the forefront. The bill passed in the house by a two hundred twenty to two hundred fifteen margin. Only one republican voted for the bill a newly seated
Asian man that replaced the incumbent caught up in scandal. I have to respect any man that has the courage to vote his conscience. As he stated, a good majority of the people affected by “Katrina” have not recovered.
We talked about some of the Asian power moves in earlier posts. Look at the Yankee series ? Could they have really won without the bat of Asian Matsui? I’ll let the baseball cynics decide. How about our New York
City controller John Lu an Asian man. I think adding some different nationalities, views, and ideals can only help this country at this point. We have been black and white so long. The only thing it did was send us on a
journey to nowhere. Hence, where we are today. Stuck in a hole we may never get out of. A two trillion dollar health bill on top of a bailout plan that basically didn’t create jobs. A similar plan worked in China. Why?
The money went straight to infrastructure not the bureaucracies of each state. Basically the small business owners that needed the help were overlooked. Now they’re being asked to share the burden of the health
plan by being on the receiving end of a tax increase. Ladies and Gentlemen it’s about to get hot in the kitchen! I will donate a strand of hair off my head for every suggestion that can help us out of this mess……Poppas Out
” Trick or Treat “
20 October 2009 in UncategorizedHi Family,
Did anyone turn on the news this week and feel like they were in an episode of “My Favorite Martian” or was it just Poppa. The nerve of all the news stations to broadcast the story of a runaway helium
balloon. Supposedly the balloon was carrying a little boy that climbed inside. I immediately became suspicious when I didn’t see the parents on the news crying hysterical. The question I have to ask is why wasn’t
the media able to ascertain that this was a hoax? Probably because they were just as much a part of it as the family was. Anybody that turned on the news without knowing what was going on would have thought
we were being invaded by martians. The media has always been obsessed with wanting to report a U.F.O story. It’s a crying shame that they had to stoop this low. Whatever happen to responsible journalism ?
Now the talk is that they want to arrest the parents on several felony charges. Well as they arrest the parents they should arrest every station manager that allowed that story to air. They knew exactly what was
going on. The media outlets were more concerned about rating and pimping the minds of the public than anything else. In a sense it did work. It caused me to have another one of my stupid dreams. I was stuck
in the middle of nowhere when suddenly I began being attacked by martians. The first thing I noticed was that there was no media present. The media didn’t give a damn that I was being attacked by these martians.
In fact, judging by the look on some of the newscasters faces, they were happy that the martians were kicking Poppas ass . Suddenly I remembered ! I had one ” Obama Pill ” left in my pocket. I popped that sucker
and a new power came over me. The next thing I knew I had this black cape and some fangs. I had turned into ” Count Blackula ” . Those martians ran like hell. They knew Poppa wanted to suck dee green blood.
Speaking of an ” Obama Pill ” big ups to the Pres for his ” Nobel Peace Prize ” win. Does it make sense to spend time debating on whether or not he should have received this award.
The true fact is that Obama is important to all of us in these times. We still have quite a large majority of people that can’t accept him as President. Well just get over it. There’s only two trains; one going to heaven
and one going to hell. Right now it looks like Obamas train is going to heaven so that’s the one Poppa is riding on. To all the human beings that want to follow behind this idiot from Louisiana that refused to marry
an interracial couple go right ahead. A person that never went to church would know that his train is going straight to hell. It’s just a shame that sometimes we grow older and stay stuck on the same stupid mentality.
Did he ever think about the interracial President we have in office ? The nerve of him to think that he could stop all these different nationalities from going to bed with each other. Was it really going to destroy the world
to see another light-skinned baby with green eyes. What am I supposed to say to my oldest daughter who has a white boyfriend. She just got back from Miami this weekend and told me about the black men making comments.
Oh yea, there’s black people that have problems with it too. Well they can take there black asses on the train to hell too. How can I be upset that my daughter had enough sense not to go to bed with Flavor Flav. Do you think
I need to see five grandchildren walking around in pampers with giant clocks around their necks. Did society forget that this is the Hip-Hop generation. They could give less than a damn about the color of each others skin
Hip-Hop has brought together people of all nationalities. Look at what it’s doing for the economy. Right now one of the cornerstones holding a financially troubled music industry together. So back off !
As we all prepare for ” Trick or Treat ” don’t forget the biggest trick is taking place on Wall St. Everybody is rejoicing and ready to declare that the recession is over. The truth is the real
core of the recession is just beginning. Right now in New York a 10.3 unemployment rating and the governor hasn’t even implemented cuts that must take place to help balance the budget. From July to Aug almost a million
forclosures. So who is rejoicing ? The bankers of course. They not only performed the trick but received the treat. The hard working American taxpayer has been used and abused and thrown to the curb again. How sweet
it is to be able to cry broke to the government and then reward yourself with a hefty bonus. Can we blame the bankers for singing their ” Halloween ” slogan, ” Trick or Treat smell my feet you gave us something good to eat”.
Shout outs to Amsterdam and everyone reading this blog. I have set up a folder for videos on” Youtube” for little tidbits of Poppa Steps weekly excursions. You will get the general idea of the

” Is Anybody Safe ? “
5 October 2009 in UncategorizedHi family,
I’m back at the table but don’t ask me how. N.Y.C. is becoming such a tuff place to live in. On one end I’m surrounded by all the droopy jean thugs with their ashy butts hanging out. On the other end are the
walking time bombs waiting to explode. As witnessed in midtown early in the week. Another young life lost just for bumping into someone on a crowded N.Y.C. street. The perpetrator a young man that served
in Kuwait, calmly walked back into the crowd as if nothing happen. He eventually committed suicide but that doesn’t undermine the fact that we have reached an epidemic in cities across the country. What makes
this incident even more scary is that he was actually working for Fed Ex. Yes, that crazy person that we all thought was confined to a mental institution is right at the job, the supermarket, the post office, living next
door . With the recession in full throttle these types of incidences have become our daily reality. The state of the economy has been one major factor in creating this atmosphere of helplessness. Look at the
city of Detroit. Right now as I speak 28% unemployment. Basic services are in danger of being shut down. The combination of the music, inadequate parenting and lack of programs has created a molotov cocktail in
the minds of our youth. Plain and simple, they just don’t give a _ _ _ _. We just witnessed a savage beating in Chicago this week. Teenagers are running amok like savages with no respect for human life. The sad
part is that they never seem to beat on the person that needs a beatdown. It’s always the kid that is trying to do something with his life. I really hate to put the conspiracy theory out there but what else could it be ?
This has been the culmination of a well thought out plan in the works for years. Remember when the rap music suddenly changed. Remember we had the party records and socially conscience lyrics. Now we have
the shoot em up bang bang lyrics of the studio gangsters. Take away the afterschool programs, jobs and responsible parenting and we’ve created the Wild Wild West. I just came back from Mount Vernon, N.Y. and
the town looks like a bomb hit it. Abandoned houses and negros all over the place standing on the corner. The same situation in Schenectedy, N.Y. The roads are falling apart because of no money. The state of what’s
happening across the country is severe. We all better understand that no amount of money or status will be able to protect us if we don’t act soon. This is also why I take great offense to the coward that posed the question,
“Should the President be assasinated?” on facebook. We already have the terrorist to deal with, do we really need to be terrorizing ourselves? We have enough to deal with already. We don’t need civil unrest should something
happen to this man. Let’s be truthful about it . The real culprit is laying back on his Texas farm laughing at all of us.
Then we have the David Letterman debacle. One of the producers was hard up for cash and hitched an extortion plot to expose Daves extramarital affairs. Is this really news? Guys just use basic
common sense. Let Poppa share a little bit of his wisdom. Any man with a gap in his tooth and a smirky grin like Daves is doing something. Those poor women. Can you imagine having sex with someone and he’s
just smirking, grinning and telling jokes all through the act. If I was a women there is no way I would have sex with Dave even with his money. I would feel like I’m having sex with the cartoon character from
” Mad Magazine”. I just can’t even picture Dave having sex at all. Nevertheless I have to respect Dave for going public. I respect him more then I will ever respect John Edwards. What a wimp. To think that he would ask
another married man to take the blame for his indiscretion is unthinkable. Is that the type of man we needed to run the country ? I also find it very interesting that we haven’t heard much from any of the women in these cases.
Is there any reason why the white women stay back and deal with this crap ? You can best believe that if that was a sister Dave would have had a pan of ” Al Green ” grits thrown on his back during the late show.
Those funny looking teeth would have been knocked down his throat and his bank account would have been depleted. Take it from “Poppa” it pays to be single.
With everything that is going on in the world there is still hope. His name is ” Jack Lalanne “. Remember how we all thought this man was crazy exercising in his tight jumpsuit.Well
Jack is 95 years old and still getting around. Jack did everything in his power to give us the secrets to having a long healthy life. Jacks life is important because todays society seems more intriqued with
death than life. How many of us will be fortunate enough to make 40 million dollars a year dead like Elvis. Or look at Micheal, probably the first ever to have a movie released two months after his death.
I always thought life was about living, but today it seems like your better off dead. Our sympathies go out to Mr Magic a true rap pioneer who passed away early in the week. Shout outs to Amsterdam for
all there comments and all the people supporting this blog. Poppa Step will be heading to the Kid Capri party in N.J. on Oct 11 and I’ll be an invited guest at Carolines on Broadway from Thurs – Sat .
I’ll have details and pictures next time we meet. Poppa Step app is available for I-Phone users to follow blog………..Peace
” The Game”
26 September 2009 in UncategorizedHi Family,
What a week ! There’s alot to talk about but the biggest news besides the Jets and Giants in New York realtime is this beautiful weather. We had a summer flashback and people were walking around the city in those
stupid looking clog sandles. Let’s face it , your feet have got to smell like “Fritos” corn chips after walking a few hours in those things. Of course I encountered the ungrateful New Yorker that was actually complaining
about the heat. You know who I’m talking about. Someone that hates their job. I was able to bring her back to reality when I told her about my cousin in Atlanta. Three hundred dollars to repair the garage door and
pulling up the carpet as I blog. I could sense from her e-mail that mother nature had some serious s_ _ t going on. She said shes never seen that much rain in her life. Which leads me to the question. Where is it safe
to buy a home today ? Southern California ? Please don’t ask my boss who’s on his way to Lake Placid. He’s telling me how he can get a three bedroom house there very reasonable. Then he goes on to tell me this story about
the time the National Guard came to restore electricity during an ice storm. I’m looking at him like he’s crazy. I know he’s straight out of Brooklyn but I hope he doesn’t think I’m giving up this heat in the P.J.’s to move to
Lake Placid. No way, free heat and electricity, not in this economy.
One of the other highlights I noticed this week was the Hip Hop presentation of President Obama. During one of his introductions this week he said, ” Gov Patterson is in the house”.
So the President has obviously been listening to some ole skool tapes of Kurtis Blow and D.J. Hollywood. I have a funny feeling that this could be the first President to say in a national speech, ” My bad, My Bad”.
I hope he doesn’t start walking around the White House with his pants hanging off his butt. The right wing fanatics will definitely call for his impeachment. If that happens I know to get on the phone and call grandpa
Jimmy Carter. At least he knows everybody is bothering Obama because he’s black. Ironically the only person that doesn’t think so is the President himself. He’s too busy playing politics. Then again it could just be the white
side of him. When we start having this white and black debate in America alot of people don’t fully understand the problem it creates. For example I have white in my family. How can I complain about the white people.
Especially when I know the white side of my family has all the money. If I burn that bridge how am I going to be able to borrow a few dollars. Do you think the black side is going to give to me ? What about all my black and
white neices and nephews. They would lose all respect for me if I started talking about there white side. The white and black game definitely needs to cease.
What about the game over in the state senate with Hiram. I almost got sick when I heard his lawyer say that young lady fell into the glass. Here’s Hiram still with his senate seat when
he knows he hit that girl upside the head. I bet Plexico is pissin in Rikers right about now. Then I have to look at Kurby try to defend someone planning to blow us up in New York. If you know there’s enough evidence to lead
us to believe that somethings about to go down don’t get on the news and try to defend the m_ _ _ _ _ f_ _ _ _ _. I mean this guy has bomb making instructions in his computer. I’m not a detective but I don’t think he was doing
research for a science project. This is one reason why I never wanted to be a lawyer or politician. I could never stand in front of people and lie out my teeth like that. It’s time to get serious and stop the game.

Kanye Rest
16 September 2009 in UncategorizedHi Family,
As the world turns do yourself a favor and fasten your seatbelt. There’s just three full months remaining but 2009 has to go down as an all-time classic. Up to this point what could we really say is the
highlight of the year? The death of Micheal or the appointment of Obama as the first black President. From a philosophical point of view we gained something and we lost something. The one
thing that undermined the luster of Obamas appointment was the decrepit state of the country. Didn’t we all know that as Obama took the reins of America he was taking the reins of Hell. What has
really changed since the days of slavery ? George and company ate all the good part of the chicken. The one thing George failed to realize was never to underestimate our creativity in the kitchen.
Obama has enough education to know how to make a good chicken soup. In spite of all his critics and foes I have to give him a little credit for attempting to make a gourmet meal out of scraps.
Please Obama, just in case you decide to make Poppa a plate ; no chittlings please.
Speaking of chittlings, is the industry becoming another chittling circuit. Where is all the class? Are Beyonce and Alicia Keys the only hope left ? What was up with Lady Ga Ga at the VMA’s ? She turned into
Lady Goo Goo. I mean I’m definitely not inviting her over for dinner. That woman gave me a serious nightmare. I thought she was in my bed bloodied. Instead it was the horses head from the
“Godfather”. I finally jumped up and realized I was dreaming. And why she thought her flat ass was fly enough to descend from a rope I’ll never know. Maybe we can go ask Whitney.
Back on the scene after years of smoking whoolers with Bobby Brown. I was just listening to her voice on the Ophra show and I can hear a difference just in her speaking voice. The industry is so
desperate they will package her and put her right out there, but don’t be fooled. No ones voice can fully recover from years of whooler abuse. We may hear some flashes of the Whitney of old but overall
it sounds like she’s singing just enough to get through the track. In spite of that, expect her album to be a huge seller because she still has a huge fan base . Her triumph over Bobbys abuse is also an
inspiration to woman around the country. I still can’t believe he actually spit in her face. I would have slapped that boy silly.
Speaking of abuse, did Taylor Swift really deserve what she got at the VMA’s. No she didn’t, but the one thing I have come to realize is that some of these celebs have become
very crafty with the timing of their actions. They have learned how to seize the media spotlight at the opportune time. If we think back, maybe the Janet Jackson, Justin Timberlake incident was the prelude
to this trend. Some say it was an accident others say it was planned. In any event it worked. If the Kanye incident happen because he is still grieving than Kanye we need to talk. Who better to talk to than
another black man that has lost his mother. I can personally feel your pain. I started to drink about a six of Becks a day. It wasn’t the Henessey but it was doing the job. I finally snapped out of it when I
realized my body was falling apart and nobody gave a damned. The only people that cared were the Arabs at the store taking my money. It came down to how much I loved myself. Tell me this Kanye did
you really have to walk the red carpet with a bottle of Henessey in full view ? You say you’re greiving over your mother. Do you really think she wants to see her son behaving like this ? It’s time to pull
yourself up by the bootstraps and get strong. Your mother is watching and the other night she was very disappointed in you. Don’t worry there’s still time to save face and get your act together. Take a
little advice from Poppa. Shut the industry off for a minute. You are talented enough to come back strong when you get ready. Limit your contact with people and rediscover yourself and what you need to
do to continue on. Spend lots of time by the water. It is very soothing. Re-connect with God because you can’t really stay in any industry without him. What I’m really trying to say in so many words to
Kanye West is Kanye “Rest”.
Chris Clown
11 September 2009 in UncategorizedHi Family,
Yes it was a very long holiday weekend. Please forgive me I’m still recovering not from alcohol but from doing the “Electric Slide” at least twenty times. You could actually see the electricity under my feet. I started off with
a heel, now my shoes look like chinese slippers. Speaking of alcohol; this was probably one of the most tempting holidays I’ve had in a while. The liquor was just so plentiful every place I went. I actually had a bottle of
Becks in my hand but I put it back in the refrigerator. Now that I think about it maybe I should have drank it. If it’s okay for a nun to drink a half bottle of gin than it’s okay for Poppa to have a sip too. Yes family I said a nun.
Didn’t the summer have to go out with a bang. To be honest I’m not really upset with the nun. I’m upset with the fact that if it wasn’t for the car accident this same nun could be counseling me in the name of God. Over the last
decade no segment of society has taken more heat than the church. They say God works in mysterious ways, well he really has aired some of the churchs dirty laundry. Is it too far fetched to believe they could be smokin weed too.
Speaking of weed, Chris Clown must have been on some serious chronic. To put yourself on national T.V. in front of all your fans without being able to come clean was a big mistake.
I would have alot more respect for a person that says,” Yeah I busted you upside the head but I was upset; I’m sorry”. Instead he moon-walked around all the questions and was not credible at all. Please don’t give me this lame
excuse about him being young. When it was time to get in between Rihannas legs you go ask Chris if he thought he was to young. If you can lay down and have sex than you can be a man and admit when you’re wrong.
Ladies don’t get it twisted, Poppa is not totally clearing you of guilt on this one. Most of the woman I’ve talked to have admitted that they can sometimes be the initiater. There’s a new breed of woman and fellas they’re not
taking no s_ _ _ t. Trust me I know, I’ve had my own share of experiences. I’ve been the victim of a knife attack but I did the smart thing, I ran like hell. Fellas don’t laugh because there’s nothing worst than seeing a blade
coming at your ass. Look at what the outcome was. I stayed out of jail, no one was hurt and I’m here on this blog. If I was faced with that situation again I would run faster because now I have more to lose. Please don’t think
I’m writing this just for Chris Clown. Violence in relationships is becoming a world-wide epidemic. Just look at the increase in the number of woman going to jail in recent years. This is a topic that I will be devoting time
to in my upcoming posts. I’ve been talking to a few woman that have been abused and will be sharing there words with you. In the meantime let me give Chris Clown a few words of advice. If you have to sound that ridiculous
on T.V. stay off the tube. You don’t get on national television and tell the world you blacked out. Me personally, I take that like she was kicking your ass. It made you sound like a straight up b_ _ _ h. Secondly after the incident
you were spotted having a fun good time. Surround yourself with a few people you can trust and stay low key. Don’t give the media the ammo it’s looking for. Leave the clubs alone for a minute and put down the Patron. We need
our mind clear so we can be focused. After all our career is at stake. I say these words with love not malice. I just can’t stand to see another young persons career go down the tubes, black or white.
Let me just quickly thank all the people that take time to read this blog. The Poppa Step blog fever is spreading but I will have to say that Amsterdam was ahead of the pack.
I was running like crazy this past holiday. I hung out with the Wake-Up club on Prince St and Bowery. I forget the name of the club but I had fun. Then it was on to Kevs 50th birthday bash. That was a blast (to
view pictures go to Facebook…Herman Hines). Then I had to rest up to be at the ” Greenhouse” aka “Shelter” at 4am in the morning. Just wanted to thank bouncer Sterling for the 1st class treatment. A very
international crowd and the place was packed. I definitely prefer the old Shelter location and crowd. Super D.J. Timmy regisford was outside along with myself. I stayed maybe an hour and that was it for me.
I just do not stay in places that are that crowded with one way out, no way not Poppa. If you like an international crowd and hardcore house you my want to check it out………..Peace
Did We Learn Anything from 9/11 ? (special post)
11 September 2009 in UncategorizedHi Family,
Like everyone, today is a day for me to reflect on life. The mood in New York realtime is a little quiet and somber. People are going about there daily tasks but not without showing some signs
of post 9/11 syndrome. Today has even more significance to me because I’m writing this blog in Staten Island as we speak. I’m also a native Staten Islander so I definitely feel a connection. If we study
the tape, people from Staten Island were probably affected more so than any other borough. As I look back on the events that day eight years ago, nothing stands out more than the sense of family. Everyone
was willing to help the next person. There was no concern about your nationality, color, financial status, or education level. For the first time in a long time everyone was equal; a slave to God.
I can remember vividly going through my own lifes experiences. I was a single parent of twins and out of work. I had seen a listing for a job at 2 World trade.
I called the ad and the young lady told me to be there by 9:30. Even today I wonder if that girl ever made it out the building the next day. I also wonder if I would still be here writing this post if that girl had
said come in at 8:00. Yes, just in case you haven’t figured it out, I was at the Staten Island Ferry on my way to 2World Trade exactly eight years ago. I’ll never forget being on that 8:45 boat into Manhattan.
It was a nice clear day and there I was outside on the boat looking at the Manhattan skyline. We were all waiting for the boat to leave when suddenly I see a plane go directly into World trade One. If you could
imagine yourself on a desert and you spot a pool of water. You decide to jump in but it’s just sand. We’ll that’s what my mind was experiencing. I thought I was seeing a mirage. I refused to believe what I just saw
so I went upstairs and sat on the upper deck. Of course the boat was not moving so I sensed something was going on. About fifteen minutes later I hear this loud roar from the passengers still outside. When I heard that
roar I realized I was witnessing one of the worst casualties in American history. The entire ferry terminal turned into a frantic scene. People that would never part there mouth were now asking for directions. Everyone
in that terminal felt a sense of urgency. At that moment it didn’t matter if you were a big-time broker, CEO, model, or unemployed like me. We all became human and our natural survival instincts kicked in. We all knew
that evil was here for real.
As I left the ferry terminal in a state of disbelief the only thing I could think of was my children. I wondered about there life without me. Whether or not they could cope with
the loss of their father. I was also thankful that God keep me out of harms way. I was really humbled that he allowed me to live and be able to experience life with my children. I was still in a state of shock so I headed
to Crownwell gym which is located right on the water. As I came out the gym I looked across the water at the towers burning. Suddenly the first tower fell to the ground, then the second. I watched a man that I knew hold
his head as if he knew someone in the building. That scared me even more so I rushed to get my kids early from the daycare center. I was so happy just to hold them in my arms. They were only three at the time so it was
hard to explain what was going on. Another thing that stands out in my mind was the way the wind started blowing a few days after. It was almost like the spirits were crying. I’ll never forget that howling sound of the wind.
The one thing that I learned from 9/11 was how fragile life can be. I no longer wake up and take these minutes for granted. It helped me appreciate my natural talents alot more.
After all a nine to five is not for everybody. God was telling me to stop worrying about corporate America and use the talents that I blessed you with. For the first time I started not to care about my critics. The result has
been this blog, music and a sense of independence. As we examine the eight years after 9/11 did it help us have a little more respect for each other? We can’t keep using tragedy as a reason to come together. The classes
are still divided. There are wide disparities among the races. The economy is on welfare and crime is getting worst. If your an educated black man that reaches high office it’s okay to be treated like a piece of garbage.
It’s okay to go to a town hall meeting with a gun. America did we learn anything? We all have a special purpose. The least we can do is have a little respect for each other.
